Previously, information on conferences, workshops and meetings has emerged piecemeal and while some schedules collating these events exist, they have been fragmented and appear across a number of different organisations. This can result in events being missed and clashes in their timetabling. The on-line UK Marine Science Events Calendar has therefore been established to capture information for national and international events, insofar as they are relevant to the marine science community in the UK.
The MSCC events calendar aims to:
The Marine Science Co-ordination Committee (MSCC) was established in 2008 in response to a House of Commons Science and Technology Committee Report, ‘Investigating the Oceans’, it reports directly to a group of Ministers, chaired by the UK Marine Science Minister. The MSCC is responsible for the delivery of the Marine Science Strategy with a key element of that being the development of a communications strategy.
This Communications Strategy has been developed by a small Communications Working Group consisting of expert communicators from UK marine science organisations and other parts of the marine science community. They have worked closely with a broader Communications Liaison Group that has tested and refined the Strategy’s content. Input has also been sought from the wider marine science community and internationally. The development of the UK Marine Science Events Calendar was identified as a priority activity as part of the communications strategy.
Welcome to the UK Marine Science Events Calendar run by the Marine Biological Association on behalf of the Marine Science Coordination Committee. The calendar acts as the central information point for marine organisations providing a comprehensive coverage of marine science events relevant to the UK marine science community.
